Peets Coffee and Tea
Alfred Peet opened his first Peets Coffee and Tea store in Berkeley, California in 1966. Coming from Alkmaar, Holland, Mr. Peet grew up around the family’s coffee and tea business.
He worked in Indonesia for the tea trade after World War II. He then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area at age thirty five and later opened his first shop with a style distinctively learned from his family background.
Peets Coffee and Tea shops have been a Berkeley institution now for over 38 years. His first store was a few blocks from the University of California. Peets is known as the “grandfather of specialty coffee.”
Today they continue to maintain traditional values of hard work and attention to detail that is essential to keeping their exceptional standards for quality and freshness.
Many variables affect the way the fresh roasted bean coffee tastes. Their highly trained roasters monitor air temperature and humidity to guarantee quality. Peet’s roasters sample each batch of coffee to make sure the roast tastes right.
